Hungry Hearts

Adapted from: Hungry Hearts by Anzia Yezierska (1920)

The Levin family escapes from Europe and finds refuge in New York City, where everyone in the family must work. Sara (Helen Ferguson) finds janitor work and meets David (Bryant Washburn), nephew of their landlord Rosenblatt (George Siegmann). He falls in love with her while teaching her to read and write.

According to Lisa Botshon, Hungry Hearts combines three short stories: “The Lost Beautifulness,” “Where Lovers Dream,” and “How I Found America.”
