Ramona (1936)

Adapted from: Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson (1884)

Ramona (Loretta Young) is an orphan raised by the Spanish Moreno family. She falls in love with Alessandro (Don Ameche), a Native American, and the two try to flee the racism that surrounds them.

This was the fourth of four Hollywood adaptations of Helen Hunt Jackson’s Ramona (a fifth adaptation was produced in Mexico in 1946). It is the first version of the story to be filmed with sound and color, and was the fourth American feature to be shot in three-strip Technicolor.
